- Cares for more than 100,000 animals each year through our life-saving programs and services
- Is a private, nonprofit organization serving the animals and people of metro Detroit and beyond since 1877
- Is the state’s oldest and largest animal welfare organization
- Is one of the largest animal welfare organizations in the country based on the number of animals cared for and the scope of programs and services
- Receives no government funding and is not a United Way agency
- Is not affiliated with any national humane organizations nor any local or regional humane societies or SPCAs; each is an independent nonprofit organization
- Operates three centers for animal care in Detroit, Rochester Hills and Westland
- Finds responsible, loving homes for thousands of animals each year
- Reunites more than 1,000 lost animals with their owners each year
- Operates a cruelty hotline staffed by professional cruelty investigators to assist animals in Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park
- Provide emergency rescue 365 days a year for animals in Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park
- Offer low-cost feline sterilization and provide a total of more than 13,000 spay/neuter surgeries each year to reduce pet overpopulation
- Educates approximately 10,000 children annually, teaching them respect for animals, responsible animal care and safety around animals
- Is a driving force for greater legislative protection for animals throughout Michigan.
